Solange is a fan of the printed suit! Is this something that we all can pull off? Absolutely!
Not just for Austin Powers Halloween costumes anymore, the statement printed suit is making a big splash this spring. Remember last spring when we got to wear tangerine two piece suits to work? Well this season designers are seeing our tangerine and raising us some printed suits! Whichever bold print you choose, you’ve got yourself a winning hand. Designers like Sonia Rykiel, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and Diane von Furstenberg sent these electrifying suits down the runway with mixed print tees, metallic loafers, and color blocked lapels and the celebs lapped it all up.
Though it debuted on runways last spring, this year we get to punch it up and get a little crazy. We have options in various color choices like color blocking, animal print, tribal print, and floral prints. We can also switch up our textile choices with silk, cotton, linen, and I think I ever saw one in a jersey knit. This ultra-feminine trend can be shaped up or dressed down in tons of different ways. Try rocking the Ellen look by wearing the printed suit with some converse or any other canvas sneaker. You can go for the sexy, zany teacher by capping the outfit with some stilettos. Neither of those float your boat? Try it with a cute pair of black or neutral wedge heels for a fun happy hour look! When choosing a style you can go for the tailored look with a sharply fitted blazer and cropped pant or you can go for a more relaxed fit or oversized blazer.
This trend is versatile and flirty for spring. Janelle Monae has been showing us how to do the printed suit for years! I’m glad the trend is finally catching on. Need to know where to shop the look? You don’t have to start with all of those high end names I listed above. When I first decided I wanted to try it, my first stop was the thrift store! So I suggest you channel your inner Macklemore and start at the Goodwill
