Solange Knowles inspired style.
Solange Knowles has a unique style. I commend the girl for so many different things, it’s hard to fit them all into a paragraph, but I’ll try. Firstly, being Beyonce’s younger sister could have been a difficult thing. But the Solange makes it look easy. Even when everyone in the media wants to compare the two, Solange resists this comparison and simply tells people to stop trying. The two sisters are as different artistically as night and day, so how then could you compare them? I also commend her for wearing her natural hair, wild and free! This young lady pulled a major “I am not my hair” power move! She did the big chop in the middle of her rise to stardom and has been natural ever since. This is no easy task…believe me. Another thing that she has managed to do is stay grounded, down to earth, and true to herself throughout being a child star (technically), Beyonce’s sister, a single mom, and going through the process of marriage and divorce.
Solange Knowles is fearless, likes to experiment, isn’t afraid of a little color, and she loves suits! If that isn’t the makings of a perfect wardrobe…I don’t know what is. I love her style so much because in any given period she can go ethnic, avant-garde, high fashion, or just plain girl from Texas. Her style is so versatile and I never know what to expect from her. She is another artist ho proves that you can be sexy and glamorous without being a half-naked sex pot!
This outfit is definitely Solange Knowles inspired. I wish I could get my afro to do some of the things hers does, but I have a completely different hair texture. Where hers stands proudly at attention, mines tends to be a bit more floppy. To achieve my hair you need to start with a few days old twist out and tease your roots with a pick. Don’t comb your ends or it will look kinda frizzy, but if that’s the look you’re going for…please be my guest. For the outfit I went with my lavender skinny cords from Old Navy, a 70’s vintage dolman sleeve blouse, coral platform heels from Just Fab, and the kinda coral-kinda orange purse from Express.
What fashion inspiration would you snag from Solange Knowles? Here’s some sounds to groove to while you pick out your outfit! She did a cover of Stillness is the Move by the Dirty Projectors and she NAILED IT!!!! Enjoy.
